About Langrick Family History
I first became interested in researching the unusual surname of Langrick when
I married into the family in 2002. As with all family research, the contents
of this site is work in progress, of which I could not have completed without
the information and photographs kindly passed on from other, like-minded,
'Langrick's'. Apart from myself, immediate family and those who have given
permission, I have not included any relatives born after 1905 unless I have a
death date as they may still be alive. Also, the information presented here is
only as accurate as its source - there may be some unintentional inaccuracies.

The easiest way to navigate this site is to go follow the Name Index link at
the top of this page to locate a known individual. From there you can
identify that individual's parents (and subsequently their siblings), spouse
and children.

Background

There are two known villages of Langrick in England - one in Lincolnshire
where there is no known connection and the village of Long Drax on the
East/North Yorkshire border near Selby, which is the more probable origin of
the name. In fact if you look up Long Drax on a 1:2500 Ordnance Survey map it
says Langrick in brackets (OS grid reference: SE682282).

I have yet to trace the family back to Long Drax, but start further east at
the village of South Cave in East Yorkshire, about 15 miles west of Hull on
the Yorkshire Wolds overlooking the Humber Estuary. From my earliest record
of Matthew Langrick marrying Tomisin Gibson in South Cave on 17th June 1683,
the family branches out to Hull, West Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and
south to London. To my knowledge there are no Langrick's living in South Cave
today, although some of my husband's family live in the nearby villages of
Brough and Ellerker.

Site Updates

As this site is continually evolving and new names are being added regularly I
thought it would be useful to add notes on any updates:

March 2009: NEW ARRIVAL!! I'm [leased to annouce the birth of my daughter ALICE JESSICA
LANGRICK who was born on Friday 27th February 2009 at 01.24am at Hull Women &
Children's Hospital. Life is currently a cycle of feeding and nappy changing, but I
hope to get back to hunting more Langrick's soon!

If you are a Langrick and would be happy to add any information or photographs
please contact me via this website. Likewise if you find any inaccuracies I am
happy to make amendments. Please leave any comments by signing my guestbook.

Clare Langrick, March 2009.
